Christian prayer / illness and care
A prayer in illness
with room for honesty.
A prayer structure for fear, pain, treatment, caregivers, and hope that does not blame the sick or promise a cure.
Tradition referencesPsalm 13; James 5:13-16; Mark 1:40-42
Name the present reality
Bring pain, fatigue, uncertainty, anger, or fear into prayer without pretending to feel strong. Illness is not proof of weak faith.
Ask for care
Pray for healing, relief, wise clinicians, attentive caregivers, and endurance. Continue appropriate medical care and seek urgent help when symptoms require it.
Receive human support
Consider one person or community you can contact for practical help, prayer, transport, meals, company, or respite for a caregiver.
