Christian Scripture / prayerful reading

A lectio divina guide
with room for honesty.

A simple introduction to prayerful Scripture reading: read, notice, respond, and rest without making the text say whatever is convenient.

Tradition referencesPsalm 119:105; Luke 24:32
01

Read

Choose a short passage and read it slowly more than once. Begin with its plain literary and historical sense.

02

Notice

Attend to a word, image, question, or resistance. Do not confuse a strong feeling with a complete interpretation.

03

Respond

Answer God in prayer with gratitude, confession, petition, or silence. Let the text question you rather than only confirm you.

04

Rest and act

Keep a short silence, then name one faithful response. Prayerful reading should move toward truthful life.

Read in context. This is an independent educational page, not pastoral counsel, church teaching, sacramental guidance, therapeutic care, or a promise of outcome. Read each passage in full and bring difficult questions to a trusted church, pastor, priest, or scholar.
